Travel Stretches

If your summer travel has you sitting in a car for extended periods of time, some quick stretches can help. Muscles tend to shorten and stiffen when you’re inactive for a significant amount of time. Stretching helps to lengthen muscles and support proper posture, improve circulation, and reduce pain.

Here are a few stretches to incorporate into your travel to make it a bit more comfortable:

  • Ankle circles – While sitting, make circles with your ankle in one direction than the other.
  • Knee hugs – While sitting, bring your knee to your chest and hug.
  • Quad stretch – While standing, hold on to something to maintain balance. Bend one knee back and grab your ankle with the hand on the same side. Hold to stretch the front of your leg.
  • Back stretch – If sitting, lean forward while reaching your hands out. Relax your back and round forward.
  • Neck rolls – Look over your left shoulder, bring your head forward and down, and roll it gently to the right shoulder. Repeat the movement from right to left.
  • Shoulder stretch – Straighten your left arm and reach across the right side of your body over your chest. Gently hold the upper left arm with your right hand. Switch to the other side.
