ClearSky Health has announced plans to build a new 30-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Mansfield, Texas.

The hospital is expected to treat 650 patients annually and create about 100 healthcare-related jobs for the area.

The hospital will treat individuals living with disabling injuries or illnesses such as strokes, brain injuries, hip fractures, spinal injuries, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or other debilitating conditions such as COVID-19.

“The hospital will provide a specialized level of rehabilitative care that’s available only through inpatient rehabilitative hospitals,” says Darby Brockette, CEO of ClearSky Health. He cites a national study that shows patients treated at inpatient rehabilitation hospitals return home sooner, remain home longer, have fewer hospital readmissions and ER visits, and live longer versus other types of rehabilitation programs.

“We feel we can make a positive impact on the community by providing this higher level of care,” he says.

A typical hospital stay for a patient receiving inpatient rehabilitation is about 12-14 days. “If patients and their families have to travel to receive these services, it can be a financial and emotional hardship,” Brockette says. “By making these services accessible here in Mansfield, we can allow individuals to remain closer to their homes while receiving the specialized treatment they need.”

The planned 40,000-square-foot hospital will feature 30 private rooms, a rehabilitative gym, dining room, and an activity of daily living space. Services will be physician-led and will include physical, occupational, and speech therapy; rehabilitative nursing; case management; respiratory therapy, dietary services, and other specialized care.

“We are excited that ClearSky Health will join our community to offer this highly specialized level of rehabilitative care,” says Michael Evans, Mayor, City of Mansfield. “They will complement and strengthen the healthcare services that we currently provide. We welcome them to the area.”

Groundbreaking for the new hospital is planned for late summer; with the opening expected in Fall 2022.
