Sepsis Awareness
Sepsis is the body’s extreme response to an infection, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death. Older adults, very young children, and those with weakened immune systems are more likely to be affected.
A person with sepsis may have one or more of the following symptoms:
- High heart rate or weak pulse
 - Fever, shivering, or feeling very cold
 - Clammy or sweaty skin
 - Confusion, sleepiness, or disorientation
 - Severe pain, discomfort, or shortness of breath

To reduce your risk of sepsis, talk to your healthcare provider about how to prevent infections. This may include taking good care of chronic conditions and getting vaccinated. Also, practice good hygiene, such as washing your hands or keeping cuts clean and covered.
Sepsis is a medical emergency. If you suspect a loved one has sepsis, get medical help immediately.
